Congratulations to Christine Jensen on her recent Juno win for 2014 Best Contemporary Jazz Album of the year! This is the second Juno win for her Jazz Orchestra project. It was an incredible experience to have recorded this with her, along with Ingrid Jensen, Joel Miller, Chet Doxas, Fraser Hollins, and many other fantastic players. Go out and buy Habitat! You can also check out Peter Hum’s review of the album. Great job Christine!
Here’s my newest drum solo called Stirred, a promo video for the new Sonor Martini kit.
The tune itself came from the tuning of these tiny, yet incredible sounding drums. I basically threw on some new Evans Level 360 G12s all around, put them each to where they sounded the best, and put the drums together. I fine tuned everything a little afterwards, but the collection of pitches was pretty random, and the melody that came out was completely organic and natural. Let me know what you think!
About a month ago I went back to the studio with Nikki Yanofsky to record some of her favourite covers for Youtube. She wanted to give the tunes an acoustic/jazzy twist, and this is what happened. Here are the first two – XO by Beyonce, and All That Matters by Justin Bieber. More to come!
